Inspired by Elsa

Happy New Year!  It's a new year and a fresh start.  The snow made me think of my high school creative writing class.  "When a character needs a fresh start, what might you put in your story to convey the fresh start?"  Yep - snow.  So, there's your English writing reference for the day.

Anyway, our family saw the new Disney movie, Frozen, and it prompted my daughter and I to brainstorm a winter wonderland photo shoot.  We thought it might be fun for her to dress up like Elsa, without having to go out and buy a fancy (and expensive) Disney costume.  She already has Elsa PJs so we didn't need to break the bank on this one.

Doing a shoot like this is SO much fun.  We waited for it to snow and then rattled around the house, trying to find all of the necessary pieces to the costume.  Of course, it was unfortunately during the Polar Vortex so it was about -10 when we did the shoot (and dropping), but I set a timer and we were only outside for 10 minutes.  I made her wear a coat and hat until we walked to the place we wanted to shoot, despite the fact that she said it would ruin her pretty braid crown.  And by the time we got there, she had forgotten that she wanted to take her gloves off...yes, I'm sneaky.

So, as you and your family think about the new year, remember to take a few minutes and capture some fun and spontaneous moments.  If you'd like to be in the photos, give me a call.  But please promise to capture some memories this year because the age of fantasy and make believe only lasts so long.  The age when they'll hold your hand and cuddle up to you in a photo is brief.  And the age when they can barely squeeze in a quick 30 minute family photo shoot is near.
